The
RSA Conference is one of the premier events for cybersecurity professionals, bringing together industry leaders, experts, and vendors from around the world to discuss the latest trends and technologies in the field. The year’s event, held in San Francisco from April 24-27, attracted over 40,000 attendees, including 650+ speakers, 500+ exhibitors, and 500+ members of the media. Edgio’s security experts were among the thousands of attendees to learn about the latest cybersecurity landscape developments and to connect with other professionals across the industry.
From our perspective, we witnessed three major themes emerge during the conference: collaboration, consolidation, and the response to President Biden’s
Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity. Let’s explore each of these themes in more detail.
Collaboration: Building Stronger Cybersecurity Partnerships
One of the key themes that emerged from the 2023 RSA Conference was the importance of collaboration in cybersecurity. With cyber threats becoming increasingly complex and sophisticated, it’s clear that no one organization or individual can address the issue on their own. Instead, collaboration between different organizations and internal stakeholders is essential to building a more secure digital landscape.
One session that explored this theme in depth was “The Digital Trust Gap: How Cyber Pros Break Silos to Advance Digital Trust.” The session emphasized the importance of collaboration between different teams within an organization, including IT, security, and other business units. By working together, these teams can create a more comprehensive and effective approach to cybersecurity.
Similarly, in the panel session “From Public-Private Partnerships to Operational Collaboration,” attendees learned about the importance of information-sharing between different organizations and government agencies. Organizations can better protect themselves and the broader cybersecurity ecosystem by sharing information about cyber threats and attacks.
Overall, the message was clear: we are stronger together. Collaboration is essential to building a stronger and more secure digital world. At Edgio, we’re committed to working closely with our clients, partners, and industry experts to continually innovate and develop comprehensive and effective cybersecurity solutions.
Consolidation
Another theme that emerged at the RSA Conference was consolidation, both in terms of the cybersecurity industry and within organizations themselves. As the number of cybersecurity solutions and technologies continues to grow, many experts argued that there is a need for consolidation to simplify the landscape and make it easier for organizations to manage their security.
The hallways were buzzing as industry experts discussed the trend toward consolidation in the industry, noting that many vendors are beginning to offer broader, more comprehensive solutions that encompass multiple security functions. This consolidation can help to simplify the procurement process for organizations and make it easier to manage security across multiple domains.
At the same time, consolidation is also happening within organizations themselves, as security teams look to streamline their operations and eliminate redundancies. This requires a deep understanding of the organization’s security needs and a willingness to make tough decisions when choosing solution providers.
At Edgio, we understand the importance of consolidation, and that’s why our
Security Platform offers a unified, multi-layered solution that includes Web Application and API Protection (WAAP), Dual WAAP, Advanced Bot Management, and more. Backed by a global network of over 300+ points of presence with 250 tbps of capacity, Edgio has the scale to keep our customers’ applications resilient against a wide range of cyber threats including
massive DDoS attacks, malicious bots, and other automated threats –
without sacrificing performance. In addition, Edgio Security seamlessly integrates with existing DevSecOps workflows, providing a single pane of glass for security teams, allowing them to remain efficient and innovative.
2023 Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity
Finally, the 2023
Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity was also a major focus of the RSA Conference, with many discussions revolving around its implications for the cybersecurity industry. The order includes provisions designed to improve the cybersecurity of federal networks and critical infrastructure, as well as to promote information-sharing between government agencies and private sector organizations.
While some participants saw the order as a positive step towards addressing the increasing challenges facing the industry, others expressed concerns about the potential impact on businesses and individual privacy.
Looking to the Future: Edgio’s Observations
As we reflect on the key takeaways from the RSA Conference 2023, it’s clear that collaboration, consolidation, and response to government actions are critical issues that organizations must address to stay ahead of ever-evolving cybersecurity threats.
At Edgio, we’re committed to staying at the forefront of the cybersecurity landscape and providing our clients with the most effective and innovative solutions to protect their networks and data. In fact, we were honored to have our commitment to innovation rewarded during RSA when we were recognized by
Cyber Defense Magazine as a winner of a Global InfoSec Award for the
“Hot Company” for Web Application Security.
