When operating a large global network that supports thousands of web applications and streaming media services, dealing with distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks is part of our day-to-day operations. Having a resilient and intelligent DDoS mitigation platform is essential to the operation of our network and to the web services that depend on it.

Today xTCP joins vFlow (sflow, netflow, ipfix collector) in our suite of open-source network monitoring tools.

When operating large, globally distributed networks, hardware failures, provider outages, and other changes in behavior are regular occurrences. Therefore, systems that can raise alarms at the first signs of trouble can alert human operators or automated systems and enable faster corrective action. To this end, we developed ShakeAlert, an alerting system built on publicly available, external data to alert to sudden Internet changes.

The following is an example of integrating Kubernetes with Edgio Delivery CDN service for experienced Kubernetes practitioners. It assumes a level of knowledge in Kubernetes and knowledge of standard internet protocols such as TCP, DNS, and HTTP/HTTPS. The final objective is to demonstrate a way to make Edgio Delivery CDN service appear as standard ingress.

Given that congestion control tunings using BBR for one customer can adversely affect another customer’s performance, and a blanket enablement might result in degradation of performance in some scenarios, we implemented a mechanism to detect cases where BBR provides improved performance and can dynamically enable it for all CDN customers.
